This is Caroline Gardner Clark Bartlett. She was born in Ohio, but lived most of her adult life in New Hampshire. She was a famous singer. She was a hero to hundreds of French soldiers during World War I. But some people said she was a German spy. Could it be true? Could this little woman with the big voice have been a traitor to her country?

Learn about Caroline and 24 other remarkable New Hampshire women in Women of Granite: 25 New Hampshire Women You Should Know. Written by Janet Buell, Andrea Murphy and The Write Sisters and published by Apprentice Shop Books

Women of Granite was chosen by the New Hampshire Center for the Book to represent New Hampshire at the 2008 National Book Festival in Washington, D.C.
